Recognition For Sophie Brunner

Just a week after Promise Amukamara became the first Sun Devil since 2009 to take home the honor, ASU forward Sophie Brunner has been named Pac-12 Player of Week after a fantastic three game stretch.

Brunner has lead Arizona State to multiple big conference wins this week against Washington State and Arizona.

She averaged 17.0 points and 7.7 rebounds over this week while shooting 67% from the field and capturing a 26-point career high performance.

It seemed like just a matter of time before the sophomore would be recognized for her great play on the court this season, as she’s been a dominant force for ASU both offensively and defensively for the entire year.

Armed with a dangerous mid-range shooting stroke and the ability to power her way to the basket down low, Brunner has established herself as a mismatch for nearly every opponent she’s faced.

The obvious team MVP leads the team in both scoring and rebounding in this 2014-2015 campaign, and will play a huge role in ASU’s success in both the Pac-12 conference and in the postseason.

Arizona State seems to be finding their stride with Brunner leading the way, rattling off 12 straight wins and finding themselves ranked 15th in the country as we wrap up the first week of Pac-12 play.

If these two straight Player of the Week awards mean anything, it’s that ASU’s hot and has multiple players feeling confident about what they can contribute to the team’s success.

And if I’m Tara VanDerveer and the Stanford Cardinal, that’s not something I want to hear as Arizona State prepares to march into Maples Pavilion this coming Monday, hungry for their first win on Stanford’s floor in this millennium.
