ASU Softball: Doubleheader on deck for Sun Devils

The Sun Devils did not have an ideal start to this season’s conference play. Arizona State lost all three games in the series against the Washington Huskies over the course of last week.

This marks ASU’s longest losing streak of the season. The Sun Devils managed to improve each game, with the last one being just a 1-0 loss.

The New Mexico State Aggies are 10-14 overall this season. They are coming of a 14-6 win over Omaha, but were on a three game losing streak like ASU prior to that. All of those losses came from the Nebraska Huskers, a team that the Sun Devils recently swept.

There are a few Aggies that have been hitting very well. New Mexico State sophomore Victoria Castro is on a six game hitting streak, while freshman Caity Szczesny and sophomore Kelsey Horton are both have hitting streaks that span four games.

Additionally, Aggies junior Rachel Rodriguez leads the team in stolen bases with 12 on the year thus far.

The Sun Devils must use this match-up to transition into the remainder of the season on a positive note as they have a very taxing schedule ahead of them.

ASU will play its double header against the Aggies Wednesday and then move on to Pac-12 opponent, the Oregon State Beavers, on Saturday.
