ASU Soccer: No luck against the Ducks

It was more of the same for the Sun Devils Sunday afternoon in Eugene, as they dropped their matchup with Oregon 4-0.

The Ducks wasted no time with redshirt senior Maryn Beutler scoring in the fifth minute. Beutler beat freshman keeper Emma Malsy easily, sneaking the ball past her outstretched arms. Sophomore midfielder Marissa Everett was credited with the assist.

The Sun Devils had a chance to counter in the 14th minute, with Staub finding the back of the net, but she was called offsides and the goal was disallowed.

While no scoring occurred after the early fireworks, Oregon maintained controlled throughout the first half. The Ducks had no problem stringing together passes, while the same could not be said about the Sun Devils.

ASU was once again without  junior forward Jazmarie Mader, senior midfielder Lucy Lara and junior forward Aly Moon.

The real onslaught started as soon as the second half began.

Sophomore midfielder Bayley Bruner pocketed the ball in the bottom left of the net in the 47th minute, as she had a one-on-one and beat out the ASU defenders.

The Ducks added another in the 49th minute on junior midfielder Abby Morrow’s fourth goal of the year for Oregon, compliments of an assist from Everett.

The barrage of goals didn’t stop there.

Malsy was called for a foul in the penalty box in the 50th minute after undercutting an Oregon attacker, and sophomore midfielder Sofia Chambers converted the subsequent penalty kick.

The Sun Devils were left staring at a 4-0 deficit still early in the second half of play.

ASU’s attempts to put a goal on the board in the second half were denied, as the Ducks closed out the 4-0 victory.

The Sun Devils will return to action Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Tempe against Cal. The game will be streamed live on Pac-12 digital.
