'Lopes Shock Sun Devils, Take First Place

(Photo: Jodi Vosika/ASU Lacrosse)In one swift shot with under 10 seconds remaining in overtime, No, 18 Grand Canyon University defied SLC South logic, defeating the No. 3 Arizona State Sun Devils 14-13. It was the first SLC South loss in ASU’s history, and it was costly: with the win, GCU earned a first-round bye into the semifinals of the SLC tournament.

‘Lopes fans and students rushed the field in recognition of the biggest win in program history. 

ASU attack man and captain Payson Clark, the MCLA’s leading goal-scorer, scored to tie the game with 16.3 seconds remaining in regulation, and after a Handy face-off win, Clark had one more chance to score for the win but the shot rung off the crossbar as time expired.

Sun Devils Take Care of Utes

The ASU men’s lacrosse team closed out its weekend with a 15-4 win over the University of Utah Utes on Saturday.

The Sun Devils (10-1) were led by attackman Dan Davis who scored seven goals.

Utah (4-7), on the other hand, struggled to generate anything on offense. The Utes were short-staffed throughout the game, as 14 of their players were unable to play.

Florida - ASU Preview

This weekend, the Sun Devils continue their march toward a title with back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. Tonight, Arizona State will take on the Florida Gators of the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference. 

Despite holding a 1-0 record in conference play, the Gators have struggled mightily this season and stand at 1-4 overall. 

In their five games, the Gators have scored just 34 goals and they have yet to play a ranked opponent.
