(Photo: Jodi Vosika/ASU Lacrosse)In one swift shot with under 10 seconds remaining in overtime, No, 18 Grand Canyon University defied SLC South logic, defeating the No. 3 Arizona State Sun Devils 14-13. It was the first SLC South loss in ASU’s history, and it was costly: with the win, GCU earned a first-round bye into the semifinals of the SLC tournament.
‘Lopes fans and students rushed the field in recognition of the biggest win in program history.
ASU attack man and captain Payson Clark, the MCLA’s leading goal-scorer, scored to tie the game with 16.3 seconds remaining in regulation, and after a Handy face-off win, Clark had one more chance to score for the win but the shot rung off the crossbar as time expired.
