Post-Draft Sun Devils Signings Analysis

The 2013 NFL Draft has come and gone and much to the surprise of many Arizona State fans, not a single Sun Devil was selected.  The news isn’t all doom and gloom, though.  Several members of the team will be trading in their Maroon and Gold for a new set of colors after being signed as undrafted free agents immediately following the draft.

Here is how I think each player fits with the team they signed with, and what the odds are that each player makes the team he signed with.

Sun Devil Draft Prospects for 2013

We are less than 24 hours from the start of the NFL draft and while Arizona State lacks any players who scream ‘Star,’ there are a few Sun Devils who have a chance to make a living playing professional football.

Here is a breakdown of who those players are, what they do well and what they need to work on, and a prediction for where their next stop on the gridiron might come.

BRANDON MAGEE:

One of the two most likely Sun Devils to be drafted this weekend (Keelan Johnson), Magee is an intriguing prospect because of his fantastic college statistics and undisputed leadership qualities.  But several questions remain about whether or not Magee can play at the next level.

Four Players Wear Tillman Jerseys at Final Spring Practice

The Arizona State football team had its final practice of the spring on Thursday, and for the first time, multiple players had the honor of wearing Pat Tillman’s No. 42 jersey.

Corner Osahon Irabor, safety Aldon Darby, linebacker Chris Young and defensive end Will Sutton, all defenders, wore the green camouflaged jersey during practice.  It was the third consecutive practice wearing the jersey for Sutton.  Darby had the jersey during one practice in October, but lost it before the next practice.

“It was definitely a proud moment for me,” Irabor said of the moment he opened his locker and saw the PT42 jersey.  “Everything that Pat Tillman stood for, he is Sun Devil football to us.  He’s iconic, and to wear this jersey means everything to us.”

Devils In The Draft Profile: Brandon Magee

Arizona State linebacker Brandon Magee’s NFL dream is only a week away from coming true, as the 2013 NFL Draft begins next Thursday, April 25th in New York City.

Magee led the Sun Devils with 113 tackles and averaged 9.42 per game, which was good for second in the conference. He started 44 games over a five year stretch.

Next weekend, there is a high probability that Magee will have been drafted by professional teams from two different sports. He has been drafted three separate times in the MLB draft (Magee was a two-sport athlete during his ASU career), but didn’t sign with a team until he signed with the Boston Red Sox after his collegiate football career ended.

Magee is projected by the draft pundits to be a late-round draft pick, which means he will probably have to wait until Saturday to hear his name called.
